Lap distances by lane

A standard outdoor track measures 400 m in lane 1. Each lane out adds roughly 7.67 m per lap: lane 4 is 422.37 m and lane 8 is 453.03 m. Running a whole session in lane 5 adds around 7% distance.

Laps for common distances

800 m is two laps, 1500 m is three and three quarters, a mile is 4.02 laps, 3000 m is seven and a half, and 5000 m is twelve and a half laps of lane 1.
